From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, demons, and dark forces growing in strength within the city.
Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure are included.
The Warrior Group Unveiled
The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the first table of characters who will separate from the main group to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team consists of Teor (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might seem mismatched, but the actions of the latest installment show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
First, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated the enemy for his personal gain, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to auction.
The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each member has a individual motive to exit the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, wants vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a nasty place.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to execute Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the party reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are sought by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:
- Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and The healer turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by the clan.
This means them few options but to head to the northern region in quest for the antagonist.
What’s Next?
According to the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Seekers and Planners parties.
Audiences can look forward to learning which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
